A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Roche Abbey like this:
Roche Abbey, ruin, Maltby par., S. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, in the grounds of Sandbeck Park, 8 miles E. of Rotherham; was founded about 1147 for Cistercian monks, who were here called Monachi de Rupe.
This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Roche Abbey by doing a full-text search here.
