In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Godstone like this:

Godstone.-- par. and vil., with ry. sta. (2 miles S. of vil.), E. Surrey, 6½ miles NE. of Reigate, 6830 ac., pop. 25548; P.O., T.O., and P.O. at sta. called Godstone Station.
