Swinton, town and township with ry. sta., Wath upon Dearne and Mexborough pars., E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 10½ miles NE. of Sheffield, 1770 ac., pop. 7612; P.O., T.O.; contains the Rockingham pottery works and the Swinton iron works, and carries on coal mining, bottle making, glass mfrs., and repairing of railway engines and waggons.
