Notes

Between 1811 and 1851 the census parish tables list Cardiff St John and St Mary as a single parish, comprising the whole of the town. In both 1801 and all censuses 1861-1901 the two parishes are listed separately. Perhaps surprisingly Melville Richards does not list 'Cardiff' or 'Caerdydd' as a parish at all, only as a County Borough and as a Rural District, although he does list some chapelries as being within it.
