A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
The Census lists this island inconsistently, but does not include any boundary change information for it. From 1901-1951 it is listed as a separate unit. In 1911 and 1921 a footnote specifies it was considered extra-parochial, the other years do not. In 1891 a footnote indicates the island was included with figures for Dale parish, whilst in 1881 the island is not mentioned at all but the previous census population figure for Dale suggests the island was also included with Dale parish at this date. Between 1851 and 1871 the island is listed separately but linked with Dale parish. In 1851 it is noted as being extra-parochial and returned with Dale, in 1861 it shares its acreage figure with Dale and is noted as being formerly extra-parochial, but having become a parish under Act 20 Vict. c.19. In 1871 the island is noted as still being extra-parochial and not yet within the Poor Law system. Therefore this unit has been made an Island part of Dale parish until sometime between 1891 and 1901, and a separate unit thereafter.
