Description:Wards are sub-divisions of local government districts in England, Wales and Scotland, defined primarily as units for the election of district councillors and consequently designed to have roughly equal populations. As a result, in rural areas wards tend to be groupings of Civil Parishes, but in urban areas they are generally smaller than parishes. They have also been used extensively by the Census of Population for statistical reporting.
