In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Talsarnau like this:

TALSARNAN, or Talysarnan, a hamlet in the N W of Merioneth; on the Welsh Coast railway, 3½ miles N by E of Harlech. It has a station on the railway, and a post-office under Carnarvon.
