In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Rogerstone like this:

ROGERSTONE, a hamlet in Bassaleg parish, Monmouth; on the Brecon and Newport railway, 2½ miles W by S of Newport. Real property, £4, 323. Pop., 1, 210. Houses, 258. There is a dissenting chapel.
