In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Bewdley like this:
Bewdley, mun. bor. and township, Ribbesford par., Worcestershire, on river Severn, 3 miles SW. of Kidderminster and 126 miles from London by rail, 2110 ac., pop. 3088; p.o., t.o., 1 Bank. Market-day, Saturday. It has mfrs. of combs, leather, and malt. It returned 1 member to Parliament until 1885.
