In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Nether Haddon like this:
Haddon, Nether, par., N. Derbyshire, on river Wye, 2 miles SE. of Bakewell, 1499 ac., pop. 11; here is Haddon Hall, an uninhabited seat of Duke of Rutland, referred to by Scott in the novel Peveril of the Peak.
