In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Inver like this:

Inver, coast par. and hamlet, S. co. Donegal, on river Inver and Inver Bay (4 miles by 2 miles), 36,811 ac.; pop. 8415; P.O.; contains Mount Charles.
