In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Cheriton like this:

CHERITON, a parish in Swansea district, Glamorgan; on the Burry estuary, 8½ miles WSW of Loughor r. station, and 13 W of Swansea. Post town, Reynoldstone, under Swansea. Acres, 1, 419; of which 100 are water. Real property, £1, 022. Pop., 230. Houses, 53. The property is subdivided. Some traces exist of Boville castle. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St. David's. Value, £150. Patron, the Prince of Wales. The church is ancient.
