In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ballinderry like this:

Ballinderry.-- par. and 2 vils., Upper and Lower, S. co. Antrim, on Lough Neagh, 10,895 ac., pop. 3054. Upper Ballinderry vil. with ry. sta., is 14 miles SW. of Belfast; P.O. Lower Ballinderry vil. is 2 m. farther W.; P.O.
