In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glenlivet like this:
Glenlivet (or Glenlivat), quoad sacra par., Inveravon par., Banffshire, pop. 1616; P.O., T.O. (5¾ miles SE. of Ballindalloch sta.), 1 Bank. Glenlivet gives the title of baron to the Marquis of Huntly. The battle of Glenlivet was fought 1594.
