Place:

Cherkenhill  Worcestershire

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Cherkenhill like this:

CHOCKNELL, a hamlet in Leigh parish, Worcestershire; 6½ miles WSW of Worcester. It was formerly a parish.

Our identification of "Chocknell", as referenced in the descriptive gazetteers, and "Cherkenhill", as named on nineteenth century Ordnance Survey maps, is tentative and based on the similarity of name coupled with the locations roughly matching. Additional information about this locality is available for Leigh
