In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Lewisheath like this:

LEWISHEATH, an ancient manor in Horsmonden parish, Kent; 3 miles NE of Lamberhurst. It belonged, in the early part of the 14th century, to John de Groflinrst; and was given by him to Bayham abbey. Its name was then written Leueshothe.
