In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Little Bayham like this:

BEIGHAM, a hamlet in Frant parish, Kent; 2½ miles W of Lamberhurst. A small Premonstratensian monastery was founded here in 1200; and given, at the dissolution, to Cardinal Wolsey, in aid of his colleges.
