In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Thicket like this:

THICKET, or Thickhed, a place in Weldrake parish, E. R. Yorkshire; 8 miles SE of York. A Benedictine nunnery was founded here, in the time of Richard I., by R. Fitz-Roger; and was given, at the dissolution, to the Askes.
