In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Keskadale like this:
KESKADALE, a hill-vale in Cumberland; 5½ miles SW of Keswick. It deflects south-westward from Newlands vale; and is flanked on one side by Causey-Pike, -on the other by Great Robinson. Keskadale Haws is a steep ascent at its head.
