In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Parsons Bridge like this:

PARSONS BRIDGE, a picturesque bridge over the river Rheidol, in Yspytty-Cynfyn chapelry, Cardigan; about ½ a mile from Yspytty church. It stands in awildly picturesque part of a deep and gloomy defile.
