WHITECHAPEL, a chapelry in Birstall parish, W. R. Yorkshire; around Oakenshaw r. station, 4 miles S by E of Bradford. It comprises Oakenshaw and Scholes hamlets, and part of Cleckheaton; and it was constituted in 1847. Post town, Normanton. Pop., 1,755. Houses, 369. The property is much subdivided. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Ripon. Value, £125. Patron, Miss Currer. The church was rebuilt in 1821.
