In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Dylife like this:

DYLIFFE, a chapelry in Darowen, Llanbrynmair, Penegoes, and Trefeglwys, parishes, Montgomery; near the Newtown and Machynlleth railway, 8 miles from Llanbrynmair. It was constituted in 1856; and it has a post office under Shrewsbury. Pop., 859. Houses, 141. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bangor. Valne, £200.* Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is recent.
