The location is tentative, as Melville Richards lists the ecclesiastical parish of Cross Oaks without even a county. However, there are a few references to "Cross Oak" as being within the ancient parish of Llanfeugan, and in particular the Powys County Archives Office publication "Breconshire Parish Record" (www.powys.gov.uk/uploads/media/B_EP_bi.pdf, accessed 2/8/2011) lists on page 48 "Llanfeugan Cross Oak Parish Records", with a marriage register for 1890-1953. Cross Oak appears on the modern OS 1:25,000 map as well as on our 1940s New Popular map at the location shown, closer to Talbont than Pencelli, but a church is not visible. NB in correspondence Powys Record Office questioned whether there was in fact a parish of Cross Oaks: "I would guess then that the chapel-of-ease was an ancient one which served a particular township of the parish, and has been mistaken for a separate ecclesiastical parish. We have a parallel here with Glyncorrwg, which was divided into two townships, each of which had its church, and although we can conclusively show there was only one parish, many publications, including Philimore's atlas, has it as two."
