In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Gorsley like this:
Gorsley, hamlet, Newent par., W. Gloucestershire, and eccl. dist. (Gorsley and Clifford's Mesne), partly in Linton par., Herefordshire -- dist., pop. 1209; the hamlet is 2 miles SW. of Newent.
