In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Moelfre like this:

Moelfre.-- coast vil., Anglesey, 7 miles SE. of Amlwch; P.O.; adjacent is Moelfre Island, where the Royal Charter was wrecked in October 1859.
