In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Dunford Bridge like this:
DUNFORD BRIDGE, a place in W. R. Yorkshire; adjacent to the Manchester and Sheffield railway, 5 ½ miles W of Penistone. It has a station on the railway, and a post office under Sheffield.
