In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Hazlerigg like this:
HAZLERIGG, a village in Killingworth and Weetslade townships, Longbenton parish, Northumberland; on the river Tyne, 4 miles E of Newcastle. Many of its inhabitants are employed in the coal and iron trade.
The location is where the name "Hazelrigg" appears on modern OS 1:50,000 maps.
