In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Abernethy like this:

Abernethy.-- par., E. Inverness-sh., on river Nethy, 4½ miles SW. of Grantown, 78,012 ac., pop. 1530; P.O. A deer forest here has 33,000 ac.
