In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Farnhill like this:
FARNHILL, a township in Kildwick parish, W. R. Yorkshire; on the Leeds and Liverpool canal, 3½ miles SSE of Skipton. Acres, 583. Real property, £8, 604; of which £4, 053 are in mines. Pop., 464. Houses, 102. The mines are lead ones, on Glusburn moor.
