Notes:

  1. This table was constructed primarily to enable the calculation of Standardised Mortality Ratios.
  2. The script that created this table first builds two temporary tables holding actual age- and sex-specific counts of persons and of deaths for England and Wales and for Scotland. After checking, totals for Great Britain are created by summing, then the permanent table of rates created by linking the two sets of counts.


Checking:

  1. Data have been checked to ensure that, when creating the temporary tables holding age- and sex-specific counts of persons and of deaths from which this table was computed, the sums of the individual age groups always added up to the separately input totals for males and for females.
