STELLA, a township in Ryton parish, and a chapelry partly also in Winlaton parish, Durham. The township lies on the river Tyne and on the Newcastle and Carlisle railway, 1 mile W by N of Blaydon. Acres, 319; of which 48 are water. Pop., 542. Houses, 105. The manor, with S. Hall, belongs to P. E. Townley, Esq. There are fire-brick and gasworks, wharves, a coal staith, and a Roman Catholic chapel.The chapelry includes Blaydon and Derwenthaugh, and was constituted in 1845. Post town, Blaydon-on-Tyne.
