Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for APPLETHWAITE

APPLETHWAITE, a village on the ascent of Skiddaw, 2 miles N of Keswick, Cumberland. It commands a brilliant view of Derwentwater and the encincturing mountains. A small property adjacent to it was given by Sir George Beaumont to the poet Wordsworth.
