Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for GIDEA HALL

GIDEA HALL, the seat of the Blake family in Essex; near the Eastern Counties railway, 1 mile NE of Romford. It superseded a previous mansion which belonged to the Cookes, and which was visited in 1568 by Queen Elizabeth, and in 1638 by Mary de Medici.
