Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Buxted

Buxted, par. and vil. with ry. sta., E. Sussex, 1½ mile NE. of Uckfield, 8961 ac. (30 water), pop. 1934; P.O.; was formerly one of the great "iron towns" of the Weald. The first cannons cast in England were manufactured here in 1543. In the par. is Buxted Park.
