Cumbernauld, par. and vil. with ry. sta., in detached part of Dumbartonshire, 15½ miles NE. of Glasgow -- par., 11,635 ac., pop. 4270; vil., 1¾ m. N. of sta., pop. 1064; P.O.; and P.O. at Cumbernauld Station; 1 Bank; the industries are weaving, mining, and quarrying. In vicinity of vil. is Cumbernauld House, seat of Lord Elphinstone.
