Westhoughton, town and township with ry sta., Deane par., SE. Lancashire, 5 miles W. of Wigan by rail, 4341 ac., pop. 9179; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Silk factories, cotton mills, and a nail manufactory give employment to many of the inhabitants. Large collieries are in the neighbourhood. Westhoughton is a local government dist.
