Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Thornhill

Thornhill, seat, in par. and 2 miles S. of Stalbridge, Dorset; was built by Sir James Thornhill (1676-1734), the artist; Thornhill Spire, on a neighbouring eminence, commemorates his patron, George I., and was erected in 1727.
