Newstead Priory, par. and ry. sta. (Newstead), Notts, 6 miles S. of Mansfield, 3258 ac., pop. 967; P.O., called Newstead Colliery. Newstead Abbey (1170) was given to the Byrons in 1540, was garrisoned a century later for Charles I., and is notable for its association with the poet Byron.
