Moray Firth, arm of the sea, NE. coast of Scotland; the name is sometimes applied, in a wider sense, to the whole of the inlet between Duncan sbay Head, Caithness, and Kinnaird's Head, Aberdeenshire, a distance of 78 miles; and sometimes, in a more restricted sense, to that portion of the inlet between Tarbat Ness, Ross and Cromarty, and Lossiemouth, Elginshire, a distance of 21 miles - the head of the firth, in both cases, extending to the mouth of the river Beauly. The waters of the Moray Firth abound in fish, and on its shores are 6 entire fishery districts - Banff, Buckie, Findhorn, Cromarty, Helmsdale, and Lybster, and portions of Wick and Fraserburgh.
