Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Pluscarden

Pluscarden, in co. and 6 miles SW. of Elgin; P.O.; Pluscarden (or Pluscardine) Abbey, in valley of same name, was founded as a Cistercian house in 1230, and is now a well-preserved ruin; the Book of Plus-carden, an early history of Scotland, is supposed to have been written by a monk of the abbey about 1461.
