Variable : Agricultural Census Crop Categories, 1871-

Variables serve as the dimensions of nCubes, and are generally based on the questions on forms such as the census schedule. However, in the aggregate data held in the Vision of Britain system we do not store the individual responses but counts of the number of each kind of response, so variables are made up of categories, such as age groups.

Agricultural Census Crop Categories, 1871-
Variable (V)
This set of crop categories was used in the reports of the Agricultural Census (the "June Survey") for 1871. The only changes from 1866 are that flax was added as a category, and areas of rotation grass and of permanent pasture were divided according to whether or not they were used for hay. 1881 was alo slightly different, and intermediate years have not been checked.
