Notes:

According to the listing of 1861-70 changes in the Registrar General's 1870 Annual Report, strictly speaking Hunslet RD was re-named Kirkstall RD in November 1862, but simultaneously Hunslet sub-District was removed from it and made a separate RD called Hunslet; and then in August 1869 Kirkstall RD was abolished while the Hunslet that was created in 1862 continued. These were part of many other complex changes in the area during the 1860s. However, as 'Kirkstall' never appeared as an RD in a census or Decennial Supplement, we treat Hunslet as having a continuous existence, albeit losing all but one of its sub-Districts between 1862 and 1869. The precise date given for the abolition of Kirkstall is that of the transfer away of the last of its sub-Districts, Chapeltown.
