The only evidence for this unit's existence seems to be a statement by Youngs that the Civil Parish of Dalton constituted a separate Rural District within Lancashire under the 1894 Local Government Act, but became part of South Westmorland Rural District the following year. Youngs cites 30 Sept 58 & 59 Vict. C. LXXXIX as the authority.
