Here we are presenting statistics for a historical unit, which may have changed its boundaries significantly during the period covered.

Preferred Name:
HUNSLET
Unit Type:
Poor Law Union/Reg. District
Status:
Poor Law Parish (1862 - 1869)
Poor Law Union (after 1869)
Registration District
Date created:

Date abolished:

Unit ID:
10029818
Authorities:
F. Youngs, Local Administrative Units: Northern England (London: Royal Historical Society, 1991), p. 777.

Notes:

According to Youngs, Hunslet was created as a Poor Law unit only in 1862. It was listed as a Registration District in 1851, and in all subsequent censuses, but its history as a Registration District between 1862 and 1869 was very complex. Strictly speaking, the unit that existed in 1851 and 1861 was re-named Kirkstall in 1862 and abolished in 1869. However, a new 'Hunslet' was simultaneously created in 1862 and enlarged in 1869, so we treat Hunslet as having a continuous existence and Kirkstall RD as existing only between 1862 and 1869.
