In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Wiverton Hall like this:
Wiverton Hall, par. and seat, Notts, near Bingham, 3442 ac. (including Langar), pop. 18; the mansion was fortified and garrisoned for Charles I., but was destroyed during the Civil War; it has been rebuilt within the present century.
