In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Ardlamont like this:

Lamont or Ardlamont House, a mansion in Kilfinan parish, Argyllshire, 1 ½ mile NNW of Ardlamont Point, and 7 miles S of Tighnabruaich. Its owner, John- Henry Lamont, Esq. (b. 1854; suc. 1862), chief of - the clan Lamont, holds 12,000 acres in the shire, valued at £2959 per annum.—Ord. Sur., sh. 29, 1873.
