Place:

Barton  Hampshire

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Barton like this:

BARTON and EASTLEY, a tything in South Stoneham parish, Hants; on the Southwestern railway, 5½ miles NNE of Southampton. Pop., 57.

The location is that of Eastleigh station. The station was never called Barton, but was built next to the hamlet of Barton while the separate hamlet of Eastleigh or "Eastley" was just to the west. The Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map of Hampshire of 1869-86, accessible on the old-maps.co.uk web site, shows the name Barton next to the station.
