In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Cilmachallt like this:

Cilmachallt, township, Llanidloes par., S. Montgomeryshire, near Llanidloes.

The location is where the name "Cilfach-Allt" appears on the OS New Popular sheet. This would seem to be a variant of the name, as "Cillmachallt" appears in a very similar location on the map of the Llanidloes area included in the 1868 Parliamentary Boundary Commission report, and in our collection of historical maps.
