In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Milton like this:

Milntown or Milton or New Tarbat, a village in Kilmuir-Easter parish, NE Ross-shire, 3 furlongs SSE of Kildary or Parkhill station. It has fairs on the first Tuesday of January, the second Tuesday of March, the second Tuesday of May, and the last Tuesday of October all old style.—Ord. Sur., sh. 94, 1878
