In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kinglassie like this:

Kinglassie, par. and vil., Fife-par., 7717 ac., pop. 1292; vil., on Lochty Burn, 6 miles NW. of Kirkcaldy, pop. 351; P.O.; has a power-loom factory; the church is partly of 15th century.
